Life is Good because God is Good

I was reading some devotions during a strategic time in my life. Especially in those times, I read God’s word to rest my soul. As he always does, He comforted me through a timely passage, Psalm 33.

God’s entire Word is truly a “passage” because it is a passageway from where we are to where we need to be. Psalm 33 is a masterpiece of words on God’s sovereignty. I especially love verse 5, “The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.”

As I think on the Psalm, I know the only realistic way to live is to have a consistent, positive view of life because of a Sovereign God. It is practical, and supremely logical. This way of thinking does not just use limited perception, but transcendent reason; a reason and logic more informed, comprehensive, and holistic.

God made the world amazing and beautiful in multiple realms including the physical, spiritual, mental—things both seen and unseen. The earth and its people are articulately fashioned in beauty with purpose and complexity. The cycles, the seasons, the paradoxes, the tensions and releases in life speak of an awesome wisdom too great for us to fully understand.

And He created it all out of His kindness and good plans. Even in the most difficult times of man, life is good because “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Our focus and love for God enables us to experience and be more aware of His goodness. The earth is not scarce of good things. We need to realize and focus on the goodness of God and what He made, both the potential goodness and manifested goodness. What is “bad” or evil is only a distorted lie covering a perfect foundation of God’s creation. Good is not simply what we like or prefer in life, but what is good comes from a perfect loving God.
